What do you need to know before decorating your wall?

A wood slat wall is made of vertical strips of wood that extend from the floor to the ceiling. Each strip is 1/2 to 2 inches wide. Width is your choice, depending on the final look you’re hoping to achieve. To avoid a zebra-stripe effect, spaces between the slats should be less than the width of the slats, So, 1/2-inch slats should be spaced 1/4 inch apart.

Using pre-cut, one-by-two wood strips accelerates the project and helps you avoid having to use a table saw. With this method, most of the work is concentrated on cutting the ends of the boards and nailing up the boards.

It is best to buy ready-made slats that you will only fix with the help of an electric stapler. If you opt for ready-made slats, it is a slightly higher cost because sometimes these slats are sold at a higher price. But if you like to feel like a real designer and master. Then take wide slats, and if you have a circular saw measure how much width you want and cut. This way you will be able to enjoy the role of a designer, but also save a lot of money.

Very often, you can see that these slats are placed right on the wall where your LED TV is. Which really makes the space much more modern than it used to be. Also, this decoration suits lighter as well as darker backgrounds.

Instructions for making this modern decoration

#1 Plan Wood Slat Wall- Calculate how much wood you need to buy based on the strip and the width of the space. If you do not plan to move light switches or sockets, wooden slats must bypass them. All you need to do is measure the parts where your switches and sockets are located. Plan about 1/2 inch of space around the front panels.

#2 Paint the Wall-As for painting the walls, you choose the color you want depending on the space. But you can always consult with interior decorators and choose the best from the color palette. After the color has changed, leave it for about 30 minutes and then you can start fixing the slats.

#3 Cut Wood Slats-Periodically check strip width to make sure that the width is uniform, as the saw gate may loosen over time. If you are using pre-cut dimensional lumber slats, skip this step.

#4 Sand the slats, but only those rough surface layers, and start placing the slats on the marked places on the wall.

#5 Install Wood SlatsUse glue, if you are not a fan of wall drilling and install these slats and enjoy the modern look of your space.
